Shopify product photos
The 2048 × 2048 preset makes a square canvas for a consistent product grid. Your theme controls the displayed ratio, so review the result in your store. Shopify already optimizes storefront images; heavy compression before upload is not required. Keep a high-quality original.
Etsy listing photos
Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels in both dimensions. Use 2000 × 2000 for square images or our 3000 × 2250 landscape preset. The landscape preset is our practical 4:3 choice, not an Etsy-mandated size. Leave space around your product because Etsy uses multiple thumbnail crops.
Use JPG or PNG with a solid background for Etsy. Etsy does not list WebP as supported, and transparent image areas may appear black. Check Etsy's current requirements.
Fit, padding or center crop?
Keep ratio: the whole photo fits within your width and height. A 1200 × 600 photo fitted within 800 × 800 becomes 800 × 400.
Add padding: the same photo becomes an 800 × 800 image with the full photo centered and background above and below.
Center crop: the photo fills 800 × 800; equal parts of the left and right edges are removed. Inspect the preview to make sure the product is not cut off.
Quality and transparency
Start at 85% for JPG or WebP, then compare file size and visible detail. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not apply. PNG and WebP retain transparency only when Background is set to Transparent. JPG always uses a solid background.
Limits and troubleshooting
Use up to 100 images, 20 MB per file and 200 MB per batch. Each decoded source must be at most 40 megapixels. Output dimensions must be whole numbers from 1 to 4096. If your device runs out of memory, use fewer or smaller images.
Supported input formats are JPG, PNG and WebP. HEIC, SVG and GIF are not accepted. Animated images are not supported. Choose a still image. Small images can be enlarged, but resizing does not recover lost detail. Camera orientation is applied by the browser; metadata is not retained. Results can vary slightly between browsers.
Change any setting to clear the old results, then resize again. Cancelling discards partial results and keeps your originals selected. Keep the page open until the ZIP has downloaded.
